So, SlimJim Blues play the Hill country blues… but what is the hill country and why has it got the blues?
Putting it simply the Missippippi Hills are are a rural area in southern USA.

Why they hills matter to us is because they are an area where a very particular type of blues music is played.
If you know anything about the blues you are probably familiar with the Missippippi Delta. The kind of blues that they play there moved to Chicago and, to quote Muddy Waters, eventually had a baby that they called rock n roll.
Most of the blues rock that you know evolved through that pathway.
But in the Hills artists like RL Burneside, T Model Ford and Cedell Davis kept playing and evolving the blues in a different direction. One that is more in touch with the blues African origins but also which has stronger connections to gospel and hip hop.

This is what we are playing (with a UK twist of course, we have both hills and blues of our own).
To finish off, we’re sharing a playlist of hill country blues made by our good friend Cedric Burnside. Hope you enjoy!
