Slim Jim Blues

Travelling the back roads of the blues

Stack O’ Lee

Too bad Jim has been working on a version of Stack O’Lee, which is apparently a toast, so he’s also been looking into toasting.

I’ve read a book about Toast and listened to a few; Ray Rudy Moore’s Dolemite and Big Brown’s Honky Tonk Bud stand out. But here are a bunch of toasts for you to judge for yourself.

There’s a lot of swearing, low life, violence and sexual depravity. The stories are generally about pimps, junkies, whores and thoroughly bad people.

It feels like there’s a big connection between Mississippi blues, toasting and gangster rap. But I don’t think you’ll hear a toast in many blues acts in the uk. I wonder why?

Here are a few versions of Stack O’ Lee to keep you busy until we can record ours.
