Slim Jim Blues has written a song for Dracula. We’ve got involved in the Dracula returns to Derby project. The plan is to make an album of songs from a range of genre’s inspired by the Dracula mythology.

We felt that what the world needed was a new blues vampire songs, so we wrote one.
‘Dracula returns to Derby’ is a spin on the work Dr Matthew Cheeseman does into modern folklore. He’s tracing how the iconography of Dracula spread out from the first play performed in Derby in 1924 to explore what this tells you about the mechanisms of folklore. This is what we might call ‘going viral’ these days.
The song tries to work on two levels, quoting the usual symbols and clichés about vampires at the same time as talking about how these are written and created. A third theme is the list of shitty stuff that has happened in our lifetimes, let alone the life of an undead medieval Rumanian aristocrat.

We went to Dubrek studio in Derby yesterday and recorded the song with Matt Orton. We’re now waiting for the first mixes to come through and will hopefully be in a position to share it with you all soon.
We think it’s gonna be a doozy!
In the meantime here are some pictures of us doing the recording.
